Prep: 5 min · Cook: 15 min · Yield: 8 · Method: Stovetop
Ingredients
- 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
- 0.75 cup orange juice
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 0.75 cup granulated sugar
- 0.25 cup water
- 0.125 teaspoon kosher salt
Cooking instructions
- Rinse the cranberries and discard any soft or shriveled berries. Zest the orange, then squeeze it until you have 3/4 cup juice. (about 5 min)
- Combine the cranberries, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, water, and salt in a medium saucepan. Stir to dissolve the sugar. (about 2 min)
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until most berries have burst and the sauce coats a spoon, 12 to 15 minutes. (about 15 min) — Medium-low
- Remove from the heat and let the sauce cool in the saucepan for 20 minutes; it will thicken as it cools. Transfer to a serving bowl and refrigerate until chilled, or serve slightly warm. (about 20 min)
