Crisp outside and fluffy inside, these classic waffles are enriched with melted butter, vanilla, and just enough sugar for a rich, lightly sweet breakfast.
Prep: 10 min · Cook: 15 min · Yield: 6 · Method: Stovetop
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1.75 cups whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 serving cooking spray
Cooking instructions
- Preheat a waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. If it has temperature settings, use medium-high heat. Lightly coat the plates with cooking spray. (about 5 min)
- Melt the butter and let it cool slightly. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. (about 2 min)
- In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir just until no dry flour remains; a few small lumps are fine. Do not overmix. (about 3 min)
- Pour enough batter into the center of the preheated waffle iron to cover the plates without overflowing. Close the iron and cook until the waffle is deeply golden, crisp, and steam has mostly stopped, about 3 to 5 minutes. Repeat with the remaining batter, lightly greasing the plates as needed. (about 15 min)
- Serve immediately, or keep finished waffles in a single layer on a wire rack in a 200°F oven for up to 15 minutes to preserve their crispness. (about 15 min) — 200°F
